Amanda Smith
Community Outreach Coordinator

Taking a big step of faith, I left my home in beautiful Northwestern Montana and came to Kansas City for an internship at Desert Stream.  I have never heard the voice of God more clearly than I did in coming here. It has truly been one of the best decisions I have made!

God radically saved me from a lesbian identified lifestyle 10 years ago, where I was living and relating to the world around me as a man. Through surrender and repentance, God has changed my life in ways that are so amazing, including changing my desire to look like a man.

Since giving my life to Jesus, I have had a deep sense of God’s call on my life to minister to those who are sexually and relationally broken, especially people dealing with same sex attraction or who are at odds with their gender.

Coming to DSM and going through Living Waters and the Living Waters leadership training, God has continued and deepened His healing work in me. At my core, He has been healing me from the ways I rejected myself as a woman. I love that He is not done with me and He will finish the good work He has started in me!

I came on staff in January 2018 as the Community Outreach Coordinator for Desert Stream. I am excited to serve and use my gifts so that more people can come into a place of deep encounter and healing with Jesus through Living Waters. I long to see the Church create a home for those who are struggling with sexual and relational brokenness and become better equipped to fight for their freedom and healing. I love that I can fight for others in the ways that I was fought for—what an honor! And it’s even better to get to do it with a bunch of great people, locally and nationally, who make up the Living Waters family.

During my free time I enjoy hanging out with my loyal German Shepard, watching basketball, drinking good coffee and exploring all Kansas City has to offer!
